HISTORY
The East Side Hose Company was formed on August 25, 1900. It was decided to form
the company to provide additional fire protection to the east side after a
disastrous fire on Salem Road which might have been lessened if not for the
great distance up the hill Hose Co #1 and #2 had to pull their hose carts. The
first officers were; James Mullarkey Jr., president; James P McAndrew,
secretary; and Frank Siefring, treasurer. The hose company was not chartered
until August 1909. The first official president of the now chartered hose
company was John Ford.
The Company's first piece of equipment was a two wheeled hand drawn hose cart.
It was kept in a barn across the street from the present station. Years later a
portion of a house on Goers Hill was moved down to the site and used as the
company headquarters. Afterwards, the tavern was added onto the northeast side.
The Hand cart was replaced by a 1924 Ford truck and that truck was replaced by a
1928 Buffalo. In 1947 the company purchased a brand new Ward La France Pumper.
This truck was in service for almost 30 years and was sold to Johnson Towing
Service when the Company took delivery on their new 1976 Mack Pumper and is
still in service today. In 1995 knowing the company was going to need to replace
the 1976 Mack members voted to build a new building across the street from the
original station. Ground was broken in 1996 and after most of the work was done
by members the building was dedicated in 2000. In 2005 we applied for and
received a Home Land Security Grant for $225,000 We Ordered a 2006 Smeal
Engine/Tanker at a cost of $425,000 it was put into service in 2007. The 1976
Mack is Still in Service and has served the community for the last 33 years. If
